Like Finding Your Long Lost, Favorite Slippers

Have you ever had favorite slippers?  A pair that fit perfectly, were comfortable and didn’t fall off your feet?

Then one day, you realized that you didn’t have them any longer, but had no recollection of when/where they disappeared. You move on without them and maybe even buy a replacement pair, but every now and then you would recall how comfortable they were.

Many years go by and then one day, there they are. . . in a box with some things you stored away without realizing the slippers were inside.

You pause a moment, put them on and remember how good they felt and spend the rest of the day walking around the house, wondering how you managed to survive without them.

I had several items on my Saturday to-do list and almost all of them were inside.  I decided it had been quite a while since I did any serious listening to Steve Forbert and today would be a good day to do so.

It was only a few minutes later that I found my slippers . . . and I marveled in their comfort.

I been listening to Steve’s music since 1978 and have seen him play live dozens of times.  Many of the big events in the last 43 years have a Steve Forbert song nearby.  Many of those memories played out in my mind’s eye today as I listened to about six hours (and still counting) of Steve’s songs. The good, the bad, the in-between.

Ah, the simple joys of being able to revel in memories of years gone by.

Today started with this song from the 1996 Rocking Horse Head Record.

No live version to be found, but here is the studio version.  In my opinion, few have been able to combine melody, lyrics and guitar like Steve.
