Yesterday, I had the opportunity to spend a few hours with two of our three grandchildren, (and while ancillary to the story, our daughter and son-in-law). Alicia was away with one of her friends, babysitting that friend’s grandson for the weekend so I was solo.
The five of us played, went out for ice cream and pizza and then had a play tea party before I headed home.
Our son-in-law, Cole took this photo of Adeline and her Pa-Pa making our way up the alley from the parking lot to Main St., where all the action took place. (BTW….Happy Birthday today, Cole)
When I first saw the the photo, I immediately thought of the title for this post. . . The Old & The New. Adeline will turn three in July and Theodore’s first birthday is next week. Each time I see them, which is mostly every week or two, (with FT every few days for good measure) their little personalities have become a bit more individualistic.
While I have more days behind me than in front of me, I look forward to being able to watch them (along with their cousin Maddox who is currently living in Michigan) grow and hopefully continue to smile and run excitedly to their Pa-Pa when they see me come through the door.
I also wonder what the world will be like as they grow up? Like most generations before me, I am concerned for their future and fearful of them living in a world that will be hard on them.
When it comes to ice cream, Adeline has a laser focus and it took several tries to get her to look up from her cup. Theodore?, he’s just always happy.
After dinner tea party.
Happy Birthday to cole, may god stay by his side. 😊

Very cool! I envy you. Our son is newly engaged (wedding in June of 2023), and I’m hoping for many of those moments.

I suspect that is one of the best cups of tea you’ll ever have.

So sweet! Enjoy them while they are young, they don’t stay that way!

It’s one of the joys of middle age, even though I’m way past the middle 😊

Such a great time! Beautiful little ones, Ray! Two of my three grandchildren are now in their teens, and I love them to bits, but sure do miss the days when going out for ice cream was a special day! 🙂

I love love love this. My husband and I try and spend as much time with my 3 grandkids as possible. Life is short — too short. I love your phrase :While I have more days behind me than in front of me… I say that all the time. More often these days. I want to live and experience those I love as often as I possibly can. Great share.
