As the days, months and years click by, I often find myself thinking more about my past than I do my future. Let’s face it, I have more years behind me than I do in front of me, so maybe that’s natural as I’m preparing to stare down my 62nd birthday.

Even happy memories may occasionally generate a tear, but I’ve always been like that.  Sometimes, I see myself as Chuck Brown, but I suppose there are worse characters I could identify with.

The good news is that due to modern technology, my grandchildren will have a lot more pictures to remember me by than I have of my grandparents.

My grandfather and me, circa 1964ish. What I wouldn’t give to sit down and have a beer with him today.
