On January 8, 1815, the last major engagement of the War of 1812 came to an end as U.S. forces defeated the British in the Battle of New Orleans, not having received word of the signing of a peace treaty.
A few years later, (ok, more than a few) a song was written by Jimmy Driftwood to commemorate the Battle of New Orleans.
Covered below by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1974.
Who remembers this song on the radio?
I know this song well from dad playing Johnny Horton 8 track tape of it. 🙂 Now my kids and grandkids know it too.
