Thanks, I Needed That

It’s been a tough few weeks for a lot of us and I needed a little dose of patriotism.

I first heard this version of the 1812 Overture 20-30 years ago and it was one of the first CDs I ever purchased.  Those cannons sure gave my subwoofers a good workout.

I needed to hear this today.

Actually, any day is a good day to hear it.

  1. I love the 1812 – especially when they use real howitzers for the cannon parts.

We perhaps gravitate to different genres, but I’m currently listening to Judy Collins on vinyl. I guess I needed folk music! The Hollywood Bowl was closed this season, but the year before I was in attendance when the 1812 was performed and they dragged out cannons. The real thing, although I don’t know how that works exactly. I don’t think they were shooting cannon balls! 🙂 Anyone in that audience without goosebumps had to be ill!
