Do those of you of a certain age group ever find yourself listening to a “vintage” song and as it’s playing, anticipate the switch from one “track” to the next on the ‘ol 8-track player.
For you youngsters, 8 track players were popular in the late 1970’s into the 80’s. Songs from an album were split up between four tracks of two channels, (stereo) each, thus the name 8-track. Simply put, instead of two sides to a record, there were four “sides” to a tape. Often, this meant editing the sequence of songs from the actual record album and more often than not, one song being split between two of the tracks. The song would start and at some point, it would fade out, you would hear the click as the player changed tracks and then the song would resume.
This afternoon I was working in the office with my “Jim Croce Mix” on in the background and as the song Thursday played, I anticipated the switch at 1:30 into the song.
Having had dozens of 8-track tapes during my high school/college years, this happens every now and then, even though I think it’s been at least 38 years since I had an 8-track player.
Does anyone else have similar experiences?
