TV sucks.
News, game shows, dramas, scripted “reality shows”… it all sucks. (Just one man’s opinion, but a good man’s at that). OK, maybe a slight exxageration.
Save NETFLIX and one series in particular. . . Peaky Blinders.
Wiki for Peaky Blinders here.
For the few people left in the world who aren’t familiar with the very popular series, I’ll refer you to the link above.
My reason for mentioning it is that during this isolation, I have been going back and watching the 30 episodes of the 5 seasons. Over the weekend, while watching episode 2 of Season 3, I heard one of the most profound statements I have ever heard in my life. The setup isn’t important, but the character is “Ruben Oliver” a portrait painter who will be painting Polly Gray (Matriarch of the family). He is making small talk with Ada Shelby Thorne as he waits for Polly to meet with him. Ada asks if he is involved in politics?
His response, priceless.
“Politics is deliberately making things better for some by deliberately
making them worse for others”
What was true in 1924 is still true in 2020.
Some things never change, eh?
and in 1824.. and 1724… and 1624…
