I am up in NJ this week, supposedly helping my mother with several tasks, not the least of which is celebrating her 39th birthday on Sunday. She’s very happy that her 60-year-old son can celebrate her 39th birthday with her. (wink-wink)
Not much to do as all outside plans have been canceled. Dinners/visits with friends and other family members…not happening.
I have come to learn that there is nothing worthwhile on TV (which I already sort of knew) and have been subjected to programs that make The Jerry Springer Show look like a Southern Baptist Bible study. Call me an old, white guy (because I am) but it’s shocking.
The most difficult thing to watch, however, are the self-absorbed, over-paid “News On-Air Talent” who are sharing how hard it is for them to do their jobs. Folks who have staff to go out and fight the crowds for toilet paper (still trying to figure that crisis out?) and have the networks set up mini studios in their homes.
If I hear the phrase “Out of an abundance of caution. . . ” uttered by a smiling, size 1 (or the male equivalent) reporter again, I just might throw something through the TV, making my mother very unhappy.
Aside from that, we are having a great time….setting up her new iPad, Facetiming with baby Adeline, buying a new car (they came to the house… the new way of doing business), and getting her taxes ready.
Since I mentioned my old neighbor, Jerry Springer (I knew him when I lived in Cincinnati in 1982-83) here is a fun song, by that fun band, The Good Rats.
There is Netflix, Amazon Prime! I sure as hell am NOT spending my time watching endless news about this. I’ll watch a few moments then off it goes.
Enjoy your mom and your new grandbaby!

I’m actually working remotely, but there is no place to hide, so I listen to what she watches… no filters. Very little news, just daytime TV.

With the last name of Springer, I’ve heard every Jerry Springer joke in the book. When I want to provoke a response, I tell people he’s my uncle. 😎

I’m embarrassed to admit that my son and I watched part of an episode the other day, just to see how bad it could be. And it lived up (down?) to my expectations. By the way, what was Jerry doing back when you knew him?

Had been the mayor and was a TV news anchor and chick magnet.

was he into the sensationalism stuff back then?

He’s always been dramatic and the center of intention. Fun found him, or maybe it was the other way around.

Perhaps a little bit of both.

And like I stated….he is mild compared to some of the others….did you like the song?

the song was fun to listen to, and the images captured the show quite well. The one of him as a ringmaster says it perfectly; he is running a circus…
