Report From The Back Roads

A little over a year ago, I told a story entitled “Take The Backroads” which described my desire to get from point A to point B using rural roadways, as opposed to the Interstates.

Fall has made its way to South Carolina, the temperatures have finally stopped peaking in the high 90’s (mid 30’s in celsius) and the leaves are beginning to change.

Autumn is my favorite season and I look forward to being able to drive with the windows down as I make my way through the countryside.

Earlier today, I came across a scene that you probably wouldn’t find in most urban settings.  I was able to take a photo of three crosses posed in a “Calvary Setting” in a field, with a fire lookout tower in the background. I was on a stretch of road where I could see about a half-mile in either direction and no cars were visible in either direction, so I stopped in the middle of the road and took the picture.  Try that on the NJ Turnpike.

I never know what I will see when I take the back roads, but it is usually worth the effort.

I’m a fan of using back roads whenever I can, just for things like this.
