Civilization Is In Peril

Earlier this week, while reading about the University/Bribery scandal, I came across a term that I don’t recall ever hearing.  The term was used to describe at least one of Aunt Becky’s daughters.

The term?  . . .  “Social Influencer”.

A what?

So, I looked the words up and there are dozens of definitions, but they all pretty much sound like this:

An influencer is an individual who has the power to affect purchase decisions of others because of his/her authority, knowledge, position or relationship with his/her audience. An individual who has a following in a particular niche, which they actively engage with. The size of the following depends on the size of the niche.

Usually, I am a few years behind the latest trends and apparently this no exception. It seems to me however that a social influencer is better defined as someone, usually with some notoriety (sometimes spelled Kardashian), who have more money than common sense and who take themselves just a bit too seriously. I am also reminded of musicians and actors who believe their opinions on current events are worth more than any other man or woman’s. Lucky for all of them,  young skulls full of mush apparently listen to their sage advice and purchase items based on these recommendations.

I then found a youtube video that addresses the topic in a fairly dramatic fashion and I wonder if this is real or staged.  If real, civilization is in peril. With over 32,000 comments, it is an interesting way to spend 14 minutes. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, the video is about a B&B in Dublin.

  5. Gosh you’ve got me going with this one Ray. You know, I once stayed in a hotel for free for several months. The beds were comfy, the food was good and the views were amazing. In return I had to wait on tables five days a week!
