Low Country Update

Many of you are aware that Megan is having surgery tomorrow morning (Wednesday) in Mt. Pleasant, SC and she has asked me to share a few things so as to be proactive with the questions that may arise, as she won’t be in a talkative mood for awhile.

She is having double orthognathic surgery and TMJ reconstruction. Simply put, she is having her upper and lower jaw and both jaw joints rebuilt due to some congenital issues, possibly exacerbated by earlier orthodontic treatments. In addition, they will start with a rib harvest from her chest for bone/cartilage grafts and will place a semi-permanent feeding “G-tube” into her abdomen.

The 4 surgeries will last approximately 6-8 hours, she will be in the hospital 2-3 days before returning to Aiken to recover for a few weeks with her mouth wired shut, then returning back to Houston to hopefully start her clinical rotations on time at BCM.

After our pre-op meetings today, we met up with Megan’s childhood best friend, Mary Elizabeth, who now lives in the area and grabbed dinner at Coconut Joe’s on Isle of Palms.

Long day tomorrow and I’ll report back.
