Monday Morning Music Trivia

IMG_4537Last week, I was visiting with someone and saw that he had a very old, “Telefunken” radio receiver.

A family heirloom he advised. He is older than me and he recalls listening to it as a very young boy.

Now, I had only heard the word “Telefunken” mentioned in a Frank Zappa song from the early 1980’s and until Thursday,  I thought it was a made-up word.

However, I was wrong. . .  again.

Telefunken is a high-end audio equipment company based in Germany and the item mentioned in the song is very popular in the recording world.

I remember hearing that Zappa record for the first time when I was a freshman in college and I still listen to it

So, today’s “Monday Morning Music Trivia Question” is:

What Frank Zappa song mentions a Telefunken component?

What a cool looking receiver! I’ve never seen one but I have lately developed a nostalgia for older audio equipment. I can think of the lyrics to some of Zappa’s songs, but I don’t know the answer to your question. Some of his lyrics are a little “out there” and suggestive, so I can only imagine! 🙂

The answer to the question falls under the “suggestive” category, so much so I won’t print the answer if no one gets it. Yup, that was Frank… a brilliant composer, but a little bizarre

OK. So, I confess I have cheated here because my husband is a Radio guy (his work is astrophysics specifically in radio-astronomy in very high frequencies) and he is a great fan of Mr Zappa. So it is he that answered he thinks the song is ‘Crew Slut’ and the reference is actually to a telefunken U-47 microphone which Zappa is suggesting might be used in a rather lady-pleasing manner. Gracious. I’ll pipe down now 😌
