    This quote is deeper than it looks at first glance. I would say my parents taught me competence, but I could have used a little affirmation too. If one or the other is out of balance, we do our children a disservice.

  2. My dad always told us that if we were going to do something to make sure we did our best. I don’t know if we, as kids, were affirmed as much as we were told it was okay to fail as long as we had given our best.
