Mayday, Mayday!

I’m reaching out to the couple of thousand folks who follow me on one form of social media or the other. For those of you not on the blog, please click through to the blog to see the videos.

If you are so inclined, please feel free to share this post.

The story starts here:  He Followed Me Home. Can We Keep Him?

Gus, now officially named “Baylor” is approximately four months old  Lab-Rottweiler mix that is currently being fostered in the area of the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX.  I am told that the shelters in the area are so full, that they are not likely to keep Baylor, if you know what I mean.

He’s probably going to be a big boy. . . maybe close to 90 pounds or so, according to the veterinarian who has checked him out. He is already housebroken and Megan is working on some basic training with him.

Megan says he is as sweet as they come and gets along great with Martha but he’s going to be too big to be an apartment dog (like Martha).  We currently have four Labs and while two are very old and starting to fail, one never knows and five are just too many for our current situation.

Is there a “Forever Home” out there for Baylor?

If anyone is interested or knows someone who might be, please let me know ASAP.

If I lived close to you, I would take Baylor in a heartbeat.

      How far-away are you?

Ray, I’m in Rockford, IL. I have one dog, a girl Boxsky, 7 yrs old. She’s well socialized with other dogs. I’ve wanted to get her a playmate. I love all dogs but am a big dog person. I have a HUGE fenced in backyard.

I don’t know how dogs of the same gender establish who is Alpha so have wanted to get a young male. My son talked to me the other day about getting a puppy in the Spring, but at my age I’m not up to going through housebreaking a puppy. Baylor sounds ideal.

Sorry, but I could not find the e-mail, although I think I saw it earlier. Megan advised me this morning that one of the medical students in her condo is going to adopt Baylor. It is a very dog-friendly place. Since Megan’s boyfriend is currently living in Chicago and her roommate is from Chicago, that there may have been a trip in the near future that would have made delivery a little less complicated. Thanks for offering to consider the adoption and I’m sure you join me in being happy that a simple solution was found. I look forward to poking around your blog as I am the only male in my family not in LE, but am a former, Concealed Weapons Permit instructor in SC. This might lead to some spirited discussions.

It’s so good to hear that Baylor is getting his fur-ever home! That’s great news!

As far as law enforcement, my late husband was an officer on the Chicago police force. He resigned and went into engineering, but our home remained the social den for many of his friends, some still on the force, and some not. That’s one of the things that gives me the perspective that police officers are human and not perfect. They experience stresses, trauma, and social issues but are not given counseling. Combine that with my being a Pacifist, and I’m sure our discussions will be spirited. 🙂

The best to you, Megan, and Baylor!
